11/12/2009    Salute to the Champions of 1959
Kilmihil G.A.A. Club hosted a dinner in honour of the Cusack Cup Champions of 1959 at the Fiddlehead on Friday 11th December. Most of the panel were present and deceased players were represented by family members. Outgoing Chairman Pat Quinlivan welcomed the guests on behalf of the Club and told them how proud the Club was of their achievements. Tom Downes introduced the team and the President, Paddy Quinilvan presented them with a plaque to commemorate the 50th anniversary of that great victory when they defeated Kilrush on the score of 2-6 to 0-4. Pat Joe Moroney travelled from New York for the occasion. Gerry Mahon had the function room decked out in the Club colours. Joe Kelly sang the 1959 victory song and several others sang also. It was a most enjoyable night and it was great for the team to meet up again to recall fond memories from 50 years ago. The Cusack Cup was on display along with Finn Callinan's prize possession, the leather football from the Final. Paddy Cotter thanked the Club on behalf of the team.
Thanks to Tom Downes, Ann Coen & Gerry Johnston for organising the event, it was a wonderfull occasion and the sing song was most enjoyable.
